Poems ~ Choices in Google Classroom

Poems ~ Choices

Demonstrate your understanding of the ideas presented from the two poems we have read and analyzed. Choose one of the following tasks:

1.  Writing
In both Anne Bradstreet and Sor Juana’s poems, vanity is defined as something that is empty of value. How do you define it, and what does it look like? Once you’ve answered those questions, write your own poem about vanity. You can use rhyming couplets like Anne Bradstreet or a sonnet like Sor Juana. Not feelin’ it? Pick your own verse form. To help you brainstorm, think about:
what makes something empty of value
whether vanity is good or bad
what should go in its place, if vanity is something to be avoided
what benefits come from indulging in vanity
OR

2.  Mixed Media Collage
In art, you can mix media to break the boundary of a particular form and get wildly creative. For example, you can draw over photographs or add pressed flowers to an oil painting. In the space below, explore the themes of treasure and vanity that Bradstreet and Sor Juana write about in their poems. Then, collaborate with your class on a collage that combines several different media to represent these themes. Experiment with creative ways to mix the printed word with paints, pastels, needlework, or digital media. Try to incorporate eye-catching images, special effects, and music. Take a screenshot of your collage, upload it her for credit, and bring your completed collage into school tomorrow.

Have a classmate critique your sketches and ask questions about what you’ve decided to include.
